The Office of Business Administration and Technical Services (OBATS) enables Smithsonian Facilities to focus on their core mission while bringing innovation to administrative and technical functions. The staff of budget, personnel, communications, geospatial, and knowledge management professionals improve coordination and drive efficiencies across all of Smithsonian Facilities.
Financial & Asset Management
The Financial and Asset Management team coordinates the Smithsonian Facilities budget-formulation process and provides guidance for executing the operations, maintenance, and capital budgets, while overseeing accountable property, travel, and procurement activities.
OBATS Personnel Management Team is responsible for Smithsonian Facilities’ personnel actions, recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and classification of position descriptions.
The Communications staff provides services to improve awareness across Smithsonian Facilities and into the larger Smithsonian community. They accomplish this through targeted emails; presentation, report and document development and design; and digital and print media including web sites, digital signage, and newsletters.
The Geospatial Information Division compiles, manages, and delivers facilities related information covering how spaces are identified, configured, and their occupancy and usage. They also manage and provide the SI Explorer tool for SI.
Facilities Knowledge Management
The Facilities Knowledge Management team supports an integrated approach to Smithsonian Facilities information asset management by gathering, storing, analyzing, and reporting critical information as well as facilitating collaboration through communities of practice.
